The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) first came into force on 25 May 2018 as a binding data-compliance standard for organizations operating within the European Union.
Since then, GDPR has not only become a benchmark within Europe but has also inspired and influenced numerous data-protection laws around the world.
As data collection crosses borders, several countries outside the EU have built mandatory obligations for a Data Protection Officer (DPO) into their own frameworks including, among others, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Singapore and Thailand.
This creates a choice for globally-active organizations. They can either appoint a separate DPO for each country where personal data is processed or they can engage an international DPO who can oversee data-compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
For many international organizations, the latter option is more practical: it eliminates the need for multiple local DPOs and makes full use of the expertise of a team that understands the compliance requirements of many countries.
We’re there in case of any questions regarding processing personal data from your stakeholders – employees, clients, prospects, data processors etc.
