What is an EU representative and why’s it important to have one?

An EU representative is a person or organization based in the EU who represents the GDPR compliance interests of a business located outside of the EU. The EU representative acts as a liaison between data subjects, supervisory authorities, and the business they represent. The name and contact details of the EU representative is typically disclosed in a Privacy Policy.

The appointment of an EU representative is a mandatory function for businesses that operate in the EU/EEA but aren’t located there. Specifically, the EU representative is responsible for:
